Day 1 / Friday 26th September

Fly into Melbourne, check into your hotel, and venture straight into the CBD to enjoy all the glitz and hype of the official Grand Final parade. Observe all players that will feature in the big game, plus the competition's fairest and best player for 2008 and the newly-crowned Brownlow medallist. Listen to the coaches and captains slug it out verbatim in the final pre-game press conference in Federation Square. Observe the Premiership Cup for the last time whilst it remains neutral. Mingle with the hundreds of thousands of people and soak up the atmosphere that only Melbourne can offer on Grand Final weekend.


Once the crowd dissipates, the afternoon is free to spend at you leisure. Maybe check out a few of Melbourne’s famous attractions, such as enjoying an aquatic adventure at the world famous Aquarium, or a sunny stroll through one of Melbourne’s many glorious parks and gardens. In the evening, take the short stroll over the river for exquisite cuisine in Melbourne’s renowned South Bank precinct. Choose from the plethora of restaurants and enjoy a sumptuous meal on the banks of the Yarra River. Wander about to one of the city’s many cosy bars or cafes and enjoy a couple of refreshing drinks or coffees before retiring to your hotel in nervous anticipation of the history making day to follow.

Day 2 / Saturday 27th September – 2008 Toyota AFL Grand Final Day

8:30 Up and at em! An early rise holds you in good stead to be at your respective club’s official Grand Final Day   Brunch. Enjoy a first class meal, all the while revelling in the many famous faces that surround you. Laugh away with your favourite comedians, interjected with live music from some of Australia’s hottest acts. Listen to the guest speakers and the qualified and not so qualified expects predict and forecast the result of the game. Sample the array of beverages, and if it’s not too early, enjoy some nervous pre-game ales or wines.


12:30 Head to the mighty MCG and gaze in awe at 100 000 people filling the stadium to its capacity. Find your seat and settle in for an unforgettable afternoon. Rock to many of Australia’s leading musicians and marvel at the spectacle of the always superb pre-game entertainment. Hear the mighty roar as the teams run out and feel your spine tingle as you stand up to acknowledge the national anthem. One last minute to grab a pie, then settle in for the 2008 Toyota AFL Grand Final.


2:30 Siren! Two teams have made their way through countless pre-season games, 22 physical rounds of hard fought football, and several nail biting finals all to culminate in this one game! Enjoy the always fierce first 15minutes, as the teams settle to shoot it out in a hard tussle of football tug-of-war. Enjoy some more fabulous entertainment at half time as you prepare for the players to give their all in the last half of football for the year. Support your team (or your adopted team) loudly along with the other spectators; wear your heart on your sleeve for 2 hours to get your team over the line. Watch one team be crowned champions and go down in the annals of football for ever. Feel the euphoria of the winners, or the anguish and heartache of the gallant losers. Millions of people around the world are watching history being made on TV and you’re actually here witnessing it! Unforgettable!

 After the big one, head into one of Melbourne’s many traditional pubs with thousands of fans to enjoy a refreshing Beveridge. Unwind and discuss the day’s highlights, and mingle with the many other spectators who’ve witnessed the famous “one day in September”. Enjoy a meal at one of the city’s famous restaurants, relax and get your voice back preparing to hit the town. Melbourne comes alive Grand Final night. Visit the numerous pubs and clubs that will have an electric atmosphere as the festive nature of Grand Final night comes to the fore. You may even see the champion team enjoying the spoils of their victory as they no doubt will be partying into the wee hours. Dance the night away and enjoy one of the biggest nights on Melbourne’s social calendar, before you retire to your hotel for some much needed rest.

Day 3 / Sunday 28th September

Get up and refresh, collect your belongings and prepare to check out. Make your way to the airport, recounting your adventures and reminiscing over your unforgettable weekend. Only 52 odd weeks until next year……
