Itinerary: Tests 4 & 5 + Barcelona Getaway

Tuesday 3rd September – Arrive Manchester / Pre Match Function

We arrive into Manchester today in preparation for tomorrow’s start of the 4th Ashes Test at Old Trafford. Manchester is famous for many things including being the birthplace of the industrial revolution, for hosting the 2002 Commonwealth Games and for its vibrant, youthful and progressive culture, but to sports fans the city is probably more well known for being home to two Premier League heavyweight teams in Manchester United and Manchester City.

Tonight, we will be guests at the Cricket Australia Pre Match Function which includes finger food, a drinks package and special guest appearances.

Overnight: Crowne Plaza Manchester

Wednesday 4th to Sunday 8th September – 4th Ashes Test Match @ Old Trafford, Manchester

The start of the 4th Ashes Test is upon us and Australia will be hoping that their recent run of great form continues here, where they have not lost in the past six Ashes Test matches.

In 2013 at this venue, rain played a part in Australia not being able to force the win with the match ending in a draw. Batting first we made a huge total of 7/527 declared, with Michael Clarke compiling a wonderful 187 not out. We then took a 160 run lead at the halfway point thanks to Peter Siddle (4-63) and Mitchell Starc (3-76) restricting England to 368 runs. A quick run chase in our 2nd innings saw wickets tumble before we set a target of 330 for the home team to chase, but the weather was against everyone and England finished precariously positioned on 3-37 as we all thought what could have been.

Overnight: Crowne Plaza Manchester

Monday 9th September – Birmingham to Barcelona

Today we take the short flight from Birmingham airport to Barcelona – the cosmopolitan capital of Europe. This great city is at the centre of Catalonia, and while it reflects today's vibrant Spanish culture, the region also has its own unique language, character and history and Catalans like to think of it as a country within a country.

This evening take a wander down the tree lined pedestrian walkway Las Ramblas where an array of street performers, stalls, cafes and bars reveal the true heart of Barcelona.

Overnight: TBC

Tuesday 10th September – Barcelona Sightseeing

Discover the exuberance and beauty of Barcelona this morning as we embark on a half day fully guided sightseeing tour. We take in Gaudi’s famous Sagrada Familia, the Gothic quarter and Spanish Village before heading to the Olympic Complex and Montjuic Mountain where we get a panoramic view of the city.

This afternoon you can explore more of Barcelona and take in something to your personal taste, be it the Picasso Museum or a tour of the Nou Camp; the home of Lionel Messi and five- time European Champions FC Barcelona. With the art and architecture inspired by the legends of Gaudi and Picasso complimented by avant-garde chefs serving up traditional Spanish masterpieces such as paella and tapas, this taste of Barcelona will leave you wanting more.

Thursday 12th to Monday 16th September – 5th Ashes Test Match @ The Oval, London

After touring for over two months, Australia’s quest to retain the Ashes could all come down to the 5th and final Ashes Test starting today.

Australia finished off their 2015 tour in style last time they played at this venue thrashing England by an innings and 46 runs although it was a hollow victory as the Ashes had already being lost earlier in the series. Highlights of the Test was Steve Smith making 143 runs in the 1st innings and then great contributions from some of our bowlers – Peter Siddle claimed match figures of 6-67 and he was assisted by Mitch Marsh 5-86, Mitchell Johnson 4-86 and Nathan Lyon 4-93.

Our hotel is conveniently located just 1km / 15 minutes walk to the Alec Stewart entry gate at The Oval.

Overnight: Park Plaza Riverbank

Tuesday 17th September – Tour Concludes

Today we say goodbye as our wonderful time in the UK ends. If you have purchased your international flights with AST, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
