South Africa 2006

 "Ode to Kerry O'Keeffe"

by AST tour member Murray Williams

At Australian Sports Tours there was much relief
When they signed up a man by the name of O'Keeffe

They expected the numbers to be about forty four
But when people applied there were a hundred, and more

Then they realized they would need more staff
And all because of that crazy, mad laugh

So Sam went to Africa and travelled around
To see if some larger hotel could be found

For our eagerly awaited trip we were most
Happy that Kerry O'Keeffe was our host

At Hluhluwe we saw lots of animals live
There were zebras and rhinos on our safari park drive

Kerry said when we got there, I am just out of luck
There is only one seat left, at the back of the truck

When the elephant chased us and came really near
There was sweat on his brow, could it have been fear ?

Now Kerry enjoyed a beer, or three or four
And one night in Cape Town he had quite a lot more

At our briefing next morning he was looking quite pale
And said why oh why did I drink so much ale ?

Out of all of the people there were one or two pests
Who harassed him more than all of the rest

And he said one morning I was not really sure
If I should show my face outside my hotel room door

Soon it was time to pack and get ready because
It was time to return to our homes in old Oz

And when we sat down to our last farewell meal
Kerry made us all laugh with his hilarious spiel

When we left he said sadly, although it's been fun
I really did miss my wife and two sons

Yet when I spoke of his humour during a lull
He said face to face I am really quite dull.

So that's Kerry O"Keeffe -- alias "skull "
