Following on from Australian Sports Tours appointment as a Participating Tour Operator for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, General Manager Sam Harrison and Tour Manager Simon Dwyer made the same journey Australia’s own Socceroos will make in less than 12 months time to South Africa. Although we would like to say we were there for a football tournament representing Australia, the best we can offer is we were there representing AST for a seminar on proceedings for the much hyped event.

South Africa has already completed a full dress rehearsal for next year’s FIFA World Cup™, by hosting the Confederations Cup which culminated in Brazil taking out the title last month. With a few areas noted for improvement by the FIFA organising committee, the country is well on the way to making the month long tournament a huge success. Facilities throughout all levels of tourism have been upgraded; from the airports that will see massive amounts of traffic flow through them, to the hotels and also transport. Not to mention the purpose built stadiums going up around the country as I write this.

From the seminar we were lucky enough to gain first hand information on the demand of accommodation, flights, transport and more importantly tickets to the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. It has been deemed that because fans from all over the world will be converging on South Africa, far outweighing the supply of travel requirements for this event, that without utilising the services of a Participating Tour Operator, football fans will struggle to book their own travel needs.

During our seminar we met with hotel suppliers, transport companies, airlines, ticket committees and game park authorities to obtain as much information on would best suit our clients for the trip of a lifetime. From all of this we have decided to release what we believe to be a fantastic itinerary - The Socceroos Hat Trick Tour. As an alternative to basing ourselves in one city for the duration of the group stage, we have decided to give our clients the opportunity to visit three beautiful parts of South Africa; Kruger National Park, Durban and Cape Town to enhance their experience during the stay.

After been lucky enough to witness all of Australia’s 2006 group matches in Germany we can vouch for the experience this tournament offers. South Africa offers a completely unique travel destination with its friendly hospitality, abundance of nature, wildlife and warm climate, there has never been a better or safer time to enjoy the mysteries of Africa.

See you there in 2010!
