Postcard from South Africa

Sitting here in the internet café at Skukuza Camp – in the heart of Kruger National Park, I can only be excited about what lies ahead for our passengers on our FIFA World Cup™ tours in June. In 6 months time we’ll be back here at Skukuza, having the unique experience of watching the World Cup on a big screen in a mini fanzone area, as wildlife wander up to the watering hole just metres below and lions roar in the distance!

“SANParks will definitely provide fantastic viewing venues…a very sociable fan interaction area. We will be selling drinks and creating a really good vibe - this together with lions roaring in the distance should be quite unique!” – James Daniels, SANParks – Skukuza Camp

I’ve been in South Africa for almost a fortnight now, starting with the draw which delivered a “deam draw” for our Socceroos in terms of destinations. (These include Durban, and Nelspruit at the doorstep of Kruger NP, where the AST Tours will be staying!), We will have a fair challenge to advance in playing Germany, Ghana and Serbia, but at least we will be right on the doorstep willing our boys on and I reckon we can get them over the line!

Not only that, we have been able to adjust our itinerary to keep your travel to the matches (and additional costs) to a minimum, as well as incorporating extra non Socceroos matches, including powerhouse teams such as England, Italy and Ivory Coast. Plus we still visit Capetown – South Africa’s most spectacular city.

While in South Africa I was lucky enough to visit the brand new Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban - an amazing venue for our first match against Germany. Our hotel is just a walk down the beachside promenade from the stadium and right in the hub of the action – the fanzone being just opposite the street!

In Capetown we are perfectly placed a short walk from the bustling waterfront precinct and Green Point Stadium - where we will see hot favourites England take on Algeria. Capetown has so much to offer and such a beautiful setting, you are sure to love the place.

Now in Kruger, Skukuza Camp is going to provide an experience that only a handful of World Cup visitors will be able to access. Morning and evening game drive safaris and walks, traditional African meals, and all in the most stunning setting. These safaris are synonymous with Africa and are a must, They will truly take your breath away and make your trip all the more memorable.

I can’t wait to come back here with you all in June!
