ALICE SPRINGS CUP 2009
WIN TV Victoria in conjunction with Australian Sport’s Tours hosted a three day corporate package to the ‘Alice’ for a weekend of top end entertainment including the breath taking desert landscape featuring the MacDonnell Ranges and a day of action packed horse racing. The accommodation at the Crowne Plaza offered luxurious scenery including the pristine fairways of the Alice Springs Golf Club, elegant outdoor settings and resort style facilities, all this only a five minute walk from Lasseters Hotel Casino.
The first Monday in May in the ‘Red Centre’ brings punters and race goers from all over the top end for the Northern Territory’s race of races…the Alice Springs Cup! 2009 was no different with the culmination of the traditional five day carnival hosting not only a record crowd but a keen group of 100 WIN TV corporate members. The unique ‘oil mixed sand’ race track and the corporate hospitality marquee made for a day of fun in the sun culminating with a brief sunset walk on the hallowed course and a few happy snaps in front of the finishing post.

After returning to the hotel for a few refreshments at the Crowne Plaza, the group had the option of heading out into the town’s humble but jam-packed night life including the ‘Springs’ number one night club ‘Bojangles’ or could try their luck on the tables at the famous Lasseters Casino. ‘Bojangles’ is the place to be. It is a western saloon themed pub including a 15 meter long bar, fine dining facilities, pub meals and a world famous web cam streaming live on the internet.
After watching the sunrise after a cool desert night, clients had the option to tee off at one of the world's finest golfing desert venues, the stunning Alice Springs Golf Club. Currently rated 53rd in Australia by Australian Golf Digest, the golfing oasis is in the world's top ten desert courses and one of Australia's top 25 golf resorts. Although the golf did not match the accolades of the course, it did make for some spectacular sunrise photo opportunities.
Afternoon saw the group sadly pack up belongings to leave the Red Centre. A memorable trip was had by all and I for one will definitely return to this magical area of Australia for more fun, sport and frivolity!
