About the US OpenPlayed on a hardcourt surface, the US Open is played at Flushing Meadows, New York and is an extension of the original US National Championships which were first contested in 1881.
It is not a place for the fainthearted as the local New York crowd can turn on you in a flash regardless of your standing in the game. Many legendary players have dominated this event on both the men's and women's side of things. Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer have all won 5 titles each while Chris Evert has claimed 6 championships closely followed by Margaret Court and Steffi Graf with 5 apiece.
Aussies have a great history at this event with Lleyton Hewitt our last winner back in 2001. Before that Pat Rafter won back-to-back titles in 1997 and 1998 and a host of greats won the tournament before that, but we have to go back to 1977 for our last women's finalist in Wendy Turnball and to 1973 for our last women's winner in Margaret Court.
Getting ThereGetting to Flushing Meadows from the centre of New York is quite easy using the subway system.
