We will have optional accommodation available at Colombo Airport for anyone arriving into Colombo the evening before your package starts.

After checking-in at our Galle hotel this evening we will have a welcome get-together hosted by Merv in anticipation of tomorrow’s cricket.

Overnight: Araliya Beach Resort & Spa Unawatuna

Wednesday 29 June-Sunday 3 July - First Test, Galle International Cricket Stadium

This morning Merv will offer us his thoughts on today’s cricket after which we will be transferred to the ground on our private coach.

We have hospitality match tickets for each day of the cricket including lunch and beverages.

After the first day’s play we will have our group dinner hosted by Merv and featuring some special guests who will share some of the history of the Sri Lankan-Australian cricketing rivalry.

In 2016 Australia was dominated by the off-spinner Dilruwan Perera who took 10 wickets in the match as Australia were bowled out for 106 and 183 chasing Sri Lanka’s 281 and 237.

Overnight: Araliya Beach Resort & Spa Unawatuna

Monday 4 July - Weligama Bay

This morning we travel to the pick of Sri Lanka’s beach towns - Weligama Bay. Meaning ‘sandy village’, Weligama has come to be one of Sri Lanka’s top destinations for budding surfers as the natural bay produces gentle consistent waves, ideal for anyone wanting to give it a go!

Historically, Weligama is known for its beeralu lace making. First introduced by the Portuguese in the 16th century, lace making has remained a traditional handicraft along the coastal area of Weligama, with a number of households producing crochet and tatting lace. This morning we will tour a local lace producer to learn more of the techniques involved and pick up a souvenir or two.

The area is also famous for its distinct stilt fishermen, who erect a single pole in the water a few meters offshore, from where they perch on a cross bar and using bamboo fishing rods cast their lines out beyond the surf break to catch small fish.

Overnight: Weligama Bay Resort

Tuesday 5 July - Kataragama Temble & Yala National Park

This morning we travel across Sri Lanka’s south coach to Yala, home of Sri Lanka’s second largest national park.

Along the way we visit Kataragama Temple. The temple is dedicated to the Buddhist deity Kataragama deviyo and the Hindu god Murugan and it is a pilgrimage destination for Buddhists, Hindus and the local Vedda people.

After arriving at tonight’s hotel we will embark on an evening safari drive in search of the local nocturnal wildlife.
Overnight: Jetwing Yala (dinner included)

Wednesday 6 July - Yala National Park Safaris

Today we explore more of Yala National Park on our morning and evening jeep safaris.

Situated in Sri Lanka’s south-east, hugging the panoramic Indian Ocean, Yala was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and then a national park in 1938. Yala is home to 44 varieties of mammal and 215 bird species. Among its more famous residents are the world’s biggest concentration of leopards, majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted dear, peacocks, and crocodiles.

Overnight: Jetwing Yala (dinner included)

Thursday 7 July - Dikwella Beach & Galle

This morning we make our way back to Galle via a lunch stop at Dikwella beach.

Protected by a coral reef and lined with coconut trees, the area has become a haven for laid back, eco-friendly travel.

We then return to Galle where Merv will run us through his thoughts ahead of the second and final test of the series.

Overnight: Radisson Blu Resort Galle

Friday 8-Tuesday 12 July - Second Test, Galle International Cricket Stadium

Each morning Merv will offer us his thoughts on the day’s cricket after which we will be transferred to the ground on our private coach.

Hospitality match tickets for each day of the cricket with lunch and beverages are included.

In 2016 Sri Lanka wrapped up its second series win and first clean sweep of Australia with wins by 106, 229 and 163 runs led by spinners Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera and a couple of big innings from young batter Kusal Mendis. More recently Sri Lanka have undergone a rebuilding phase and are currently 7th in the ICC test rankings. Australia of course will be looking to stay at the top of the rankings and gain a place in the 2023 World test Championship final.

In the evening of day 4 we will have a dinner event hosted by Merv and some more special guests to reflect on play and look ahead for the future of the Australian team under the captaincy of Pat Cummins.

Overnight: Radisson Blu Resort Galle

Wednesday 13 July - Transfer to Colombo International Airport

We will be in touch regarding transfer times in order to meet up with your flights or drop you in Colombo if you are staying for some extra nights in Sri Lanka.
