2015 British Open

In 2015 "The Home of Golf", St Andrews, plays host to the Open Championship for the 29th time. The world's greatest golfers will take to the Old Course to compete in the 144th Open and the opportunity to take home the famous Claret Jug.

The Old Course at St Andrews is arguably the most revered golf course in the world as the sport was first played here in the early 1400s. The last time the Open was played here was in 2010 for the 150th Anniversary of the Open Championship, with Louis Oosthuizen shooting a 16 under par to win by seven strokes. Rory Mcllroy was also in the headlines after shooting a 63, which was the lowest first round and joint-lowest round in Open history.

Greg Norman was the last Australian to win The Open in 1993. However with the recent form of our golfers on tour including world number 1 Adam Scott and number 6 Jason Day, this may be our best shot at ending our 22 year drought at The Open.

Aussies at The Open
The first Australian to win at St Andrews was Peter Thomson in 1955, which remarkably was the second of three straight Open Titles. Since then, Kel Nagle has been the only Australian to win here, which was achieved on the 100th Anniversary of the Open Championship in 1960.

In 2013 Adam Scott was within reach of his maiden Open Championship victory, but faded down the stretch to share third place with Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.

The last time the Open visited St Andrews was in 2010,where Robert Allenby finished as the highest ranked Australian.
